PREPARING FOR YOUR NOSE JOB:

After you’ve consulted with Dr. Bittar and have been deemed a good candidate for a nose job, you may be wondering what preparation & recovery looks like. A rhinoplasty is typically performed under anesthesia, and only takes about a couple of hours. If you’re having an open rhinoplasty, your surgeon will make an incision between your nostrils, or just below your nostrils. The incision is small and heals easily, but may leave a slight scar. With a closed rhinoplasty, an incision is made on the inside of the nose, so there is no visible scarring.

After surgery, patients can recover at home. Recovery is fairly short, lasting about 5-7 days. You’ll wear a splint and will likely experience swelling, and bruising, and have some challenges breathing through your nose. As your swelling goes down, breathing will get easier, and you’ll be able to see your new nose. It’s common for the nose to continue to change shape for a year or so after your procedure. Regular icing after your procedure can greatly decrease the amount of bruising & inflammation.

REVISION RHINOPLASTIES:

The exact procedure involved with a revision rhinoplasty varies, depending on the condition of your nose following your previous surgery. In some instances, it may be necessary to harvest tissue grafts to rebuild damaged areas. In other instances, synthetic implants may also be required. These strategies are used when the structure of the nose needs to be restored.

Depending on the amount of restoration needed with revision rhinoplasty, the recovery time of a second procedure may be longer than the first one. it is normal to experience swelling, pressure, and bruising around the nose or eyes. You may feel “stuffed up”. If stitches or a splint are applied to your nose, these are usually removed approximately a week after the procedure.
