AUSTIN REVISION RHINOPLASTY

Austin Revision Rhinoplasty SurgeonRhinoplasty is a complex procedure that requires a skilled facial plastic surgeon. In more complicated cases, more than one rhinoplasty may be required to get the desired effect. In other instances, unskilled plastic surgeons may not provide the best result, which leads patients to seek a revision rhinoplasty. Any rhinoplasty being completed on a nose that has previously been operated on is considered a revision rhinoplasty, and this procedure when restoring a previously operated on structure, is more complicated when it’s a secondary procedure. As a result, it is even more essential that you look for a highly experienced facial plastic surgeon to help you get the facial aesthetic that you desire.

SHOULD YOU CONSIDER REVISION RHINOPLASTY?

There are a number of signs that may indicate that a revision rhinoplasty is the right decision for you:

  • You have difficulty breathing through your nose
  • There has been damage to your nose since your primary rhinoplasty procedure
  • You got a previous rhinoplasty and are still dissatisfied with the results

Some of the common complaints that patients have about their nasal appearance before seeking a revision rhinoplasty include: the bridge of the nose is too narrow or wide; the nostrils or the bridge of the nose appears collapsed; the tip of the nose has too little or too much definition; and that these is a hump over the dorsal part of the nose.

As a revision rhinoplasty is more complex and comes with a slightly increased risk compared to primary rhinoplasties, you should be in good physical health as this greatly aids in recovery.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A REVISION RHINOPLASTY PROCEDURE

The exact procedure involved with a revision rhinoplasty varies, depending on the condition of your nose following your previous surgery. In some instances, it may be necessary to harvest tissue grafts in order to rebuild damaged areas. In other instances, synthetic implants may also be required. These are strategies used when the structure of the nose needs to be restored.

Depending upon the amount of restoration needed with a revision rhinoplasty, the recovery time of a second procedure may be longer than the first one. It is normal to experience swelling, pressure, and bruising around the nose or eyes. You may feel “stuffed up”. If stitches or a splint are applied to your nose, these are usually removed approximately a week after the procedure. Many patients can return to work around this time period as well, though added precautions should be taken if you work at a highly physical job.
