Austin Skin Resurfacing Specialists

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) using the photorejuvenation process is a non-invasive method of treating skin damage without disruption of the skin’s surface. Photorejuvenation provides an overall smoother appearance within four to six brief skin treatments performed once every three weeks. This treatment can safely and effectively treat a wide range of skin imperfections, including:

  • Broken Capillaries
  • Sun Damage
  • Age Spots
  • Fine Lines
  • Rosacea
  • Rough Texture

Am I A Good Candidate For Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Photofacial treatments work best for patients with:

  • Lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick skin type I-IV): Laser technology seeks pigment, so the more contrast between the damaged skin or pigment that we want to target and the skin tone, the better the treatment
  • Skin pigmentation caused by aging, medication, sun damage, or trauma
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Shallow acne scarring with large pores
  • Facial spider veins and broken capillaries
  • Rosacea
  • No tanning within the last 3-4 weeks

How to Prepare for Laser Skin Resurfacing in Austin

Vitamin A topicals such as retinol, retinal, tretinoin, or any other corrective topical products that are for lightening, brightening, or acne needs to be discontinued at least 2 weeks prior. As well as any medications such as Accutane, Spironolactone, Antibiotics, or any vitamins that can cause “photo-sensitivity”. Consult your prescribing physician before suddenly stopping any prescription medication.

No artificial or natural tanning within 4 weeks before your appointment. This includes spray tan, fake bake, tanning beds, or lake/beach days. Laser seeks pigment so to get the best possible treatment outcome, it’s highly recommended to be as close to your natural skin tone as possible or lighter. Most patients receive a series of photo facial treatments during the colder months of the year and take a break during the summer.

What Does Laser Skin Resurfacing/IPL Feel Like?

To start your treatment, your aesthetician will apply numbing cream to your skin. Numbing takes about 10 minutes. You’ll put on special glasses to protect your eyes, and then a cool gel will be applied to the skin of the treatment area.

Next, the smooth glass surface of the IPL handpiece is gently applied to your skin. There will be a bright flash of light when the light pulses are emitted. You will feel a tingling or light elastic sensation, similar to a mild snap of a rubber band. We will wrap up your session by wiping off the gel, cleaning the area with a cool cloth, and applying moisturizer and sunscreen.

What Should I Expect Post-Treatment?

Typically, the skin will be red, possibly blotchy, and feel warm and tight after the treatment. This usually subsides within the next 24 hours. Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning immediately after treatment.

Freckles and age spots generally look darker for 3-7 days following the treatment while the targeted pigment comes to the surface. These pigmented lesions will flake off over up to 14 days following your treatment. This will leave your skin clearer, more even-toned, and brighter.

Results of Your Austin Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment

Sun damage, redness, and skin complexion results are noticeable a few days after the first session. Your skin will continue to gradually improve, with a significant improvement in clarity and complexion after 1-2 weeks. Multiple photo-facial sessions will improve the outcome.

Results are permanent. However, future sun exposure will make your skin susceptible to additional damage. If you take good care of your skin and protect it from the sun, the underlying issues are less likely to return.
