Microneedling

Microneedling Skin Rejuvenation/Collagen Induction Therapy

Skinceuticals & Obagi Products Available

As we age, our bodies stop being able to repair and maintain themselves. In the skin, this can be seen from the surface as fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and overall poor or dull texture. This is caused by our internal skin structures (collagen and elastin) degrading over time.

SO WHAT IS IT?

Microneedling Skin Rejuvenation/Collagen Induction Therapy is a well-practiced and minimally invasive way to kick-start your body’s natural healing and repairing ability, resulting in healthier, glowing, naturally younger-looking skin.

Fine needles, or “microneedles” repeatedly pierce the stratum corneum, producing microscopic “channels” in the dermis. The small wounds lead to the release of growth factors, stimulating the formation of new collagen, elastin, and neovascularization in the dermis. As well as your body working for you, we also infuse Medical Grade Hyaluronic Acid and B vitamins for an extra boost in hydration, repair, and healing.

The Rejuvapen NXT®

The Rejuvapen System utilizes an array of stainless steel needle cartridges. This innovative new technology can help improve your appearance with little recovery time. As a result, the Rejuvapen is a perfect noninvasive lunchtime procedure that delivers exceptional results.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE?

Microneedling treatments work best for patients with:

  • Those who aren’t currently experiencing active acne. One or two blemishes are okay, but active acne lesions cannot be treated due to the risk of bacteria spread and infection formation
  • Superficial skin pigmentation caused by aging, medication, sun damage, or trauma
  • Fine, etched-in lines and wrinkles
  • Mild to moderate acne scarring or acne pit scarring
  • Large pores and uneven texture
  • Loose, thin skin or under-eye bags
  • Those wanting to take anti-aging preventive measures

DO I NEED TO PREPARE FOR A MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT?

Yes!

Vitamin A topicals, such as retinol, retinal, tretinoin, or any other corrective topical products that are for lightening, brightening, or acne needs to be discontinued at least 2 weeks prior. As well as any medications such as Accutane, Spironolactone, Antibiotics, or vitamins that can cause “photo-sensitivity”. Consult your prescribing physician before suddenly stopping any prescription medication.

Some patients of dark skin tones may be advised to start a regimen of hydroquinone before treatment to prevent the formation of hyper-pigmentation or trauma-related pigmented scarring – A prescription is needed.

Cannot be pregnant due to the body’s healing process taking away much-needed energy and vitamins that the fetus needs to develop.

Be sure to be hydrated and in your baseline of good health. In remission. Consult your primary care physician before having treatment done if health concerns are a factor.

WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE? DOES IT HURT?

To start your treatment, your aesthetician will apply numbing cream to your skin. Numbing takes about 20-25 minutes. Next, your aesthetician will prep your skin by cleansing and sanitizing it. Then, your treatment will begin with the handheld device that is wrapped in a sanitized barrier film to prevent any contamination throughout the process. Medical Grade Hyaluronic Acid and B Vitamins will be infused into your skin throughout the treatment. Most patients are comfortable and describe minimal, tolerable discomfort if any at all. The treatment itself lasts about 20-30 minutes, depending on the aggression and depth of treatment.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT POST-TREATMENT?

IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PROCEDURE, the skin will be tight, inflamed, beet red, and possibly stinging and throbbing. Possible superficial bruising can occur around the eye area as well. This can last up to 24-72 hours depending on the strength of the treatment given.

Starting the day of the procedure and 48 hours after, AVOID strenuous exercise, excessively steamy showers and/or saunas, and steam rooms. Excessive facial heating may cause prolonged side effects and adverse reactions, such as swelling or post-inflammatory pigmentation, or infection.

24 HOURS AFTER THE PROCEDURE, the skin will be tight, have a rough texture, be red/darker than usual, and possibly start to flake. Flaking will generally begin between 24-48 hours after the procedure and can last 2-7 days. For the first 48 hours, H.A. serum and moisturizer may be applied twice a day. Once flaking begins, apply H.A. serum and moisturizer more frequently to alleviate any discomfort.

WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULTS? HOW LONG WILL THEY LAST?

Most patients have a peak point after 4 weeks of treatment where their skin is soft and glowing. A series of treatments may be done every 4-6 weeks until desired results are achieved. Results are cumulative, and optimal results are seen after a series of 3 or more.
