WE OFFER BAHA, CROS & BICROS HEARING AIDS IN AUSTIN

There are many different types of hearing aids. Bone-anchored hearing aids (BAHA) are surgically implanted into the bone behind your ear. This type of hearing aid allows soundwaves to pass directly through the bones in your skull and is a great option for people who can’t use a more traditional hearing aid. While a BAHA is surgically implanted, you can still remove the sound processor as needed. Many patients choose to remove the external processor for bathing or sleeping. As always, be sure to talk with your audiologist to find the best option for you and your hearing needs.

Contralateral Routing of Signals (CROS) & Bilateral Contralateral Routing of Signals (BiCROS) hearing aids function very similarly. CROS hearing aids are best for people who only experience hearing loss in one ear. With this system, your “good” ear has the microphone & receiver, while your “bad” ear will have the transmitter. This way, incoming sounds are routed to your good ear. If you experience hearing loss in your “good” ear too, BiCROS hearing aids may be a better option. This hearing system functions the same way that a CROS hearing aid does, but is designed for people with hearing loss in both ears. We carry many different brands of hearing aids, such as Phonak, ReSound, Unitron, Oticon, Signia & Starkey. For more information, call our office today!

UNDERSTANDING HEARING AID TECHNOLOGY

Choosing a hearing device for the first time is an important decision that your Austin audiologist can guide you through as part of your treatment plan. Hearing aids can be customized to your needs & lifestyle to make your hearing sharper. There are many types of hearing devices, but the most common are in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids. This is a small electronic device that you wear in or behind your ear. It consists of three basic parts: a microphone,  an amplifier, and a speaker. The microphone converts sound waves to electrical signals, while the amplifier increases their power, and finally, the speaker sends the sound waves to the ear.

HEARING AID MAINTENANCE IN AUSTIN

Proper maintenance and care will significantly extend the life of your hearing aids and ensure optimal performance. Make it a habit to keep your hearing aids away from heat & moisture, as exposure to these elements can damage sensitive electronic components. Clean your hearing aids regularly as instructed by your audiologist, since accumulated earwax can clog microphone ports and speakers. Avoid using hair care products while wearing your hearing aids, as these products can leave a residue that affects functionality. Always turn off your hearing aids when not in use to conserve battery life & prevent unnecessary wear. Replace dead batteries immediately to prevent corrosion inside the battery compartment and maintain consistent sound quality. By following these maintenance practices daily, you can protect your investment and enjoy clearer hearing for years to come. For any questions about upkeep, call us today!

A well-fitting hearing aid is a crucial part of your treatment plan. Your hearing aid should fit the unique anatomy of your ear as well as your lifestyle. • You can hear background noise
